Top International Athletes to Compete in KIA X Games Asia

Shanghai – KIA X Games Asia 2008, the number one action sports competition in Asia looks certain to start off on a winning note when it opens its gates to Shanghai on 1 May 2008 with another impressive line-up of world class athletes for the second consecutive year.
 
Renowned athletes at this year’s event will see the return of Andy Macdonald, the current KIA X Games Skateboard Vert defending champion, who shares the honour of having the most number of X Games skateboard medals (16) with the legendary Tony Hawk ; the Yasutoko brothers Eito and Takeshi Yasutoko, who regularly finish first and second at major competitions around the world and have dominated aggressive in-line vert for the past 10 Asian X Games; and the 2006 X Games BMX Vert champion Chad Kagy,  who was last year’s gold medallist for the same event at the KIA X Games Asia 2007.
 
“We’re extremely heartened by the enthusiasm by the people of Shanghai, and equally delighted by the level of competition we will be treated to by this world-class field of athletes,” said Harvey Davis, ESPN STAR Sports Senior Director, Events Management Group.  “We are excited to be back in China , and look forward to giving fans another exhilarating event we continue our commitment to serve action sports fans across the region.”
 
This year’s event will showcase more than 200 of the best action sports athletes from more than 20 countries from five continents in the categories Aggressive Inline (Vert and Park), Skateboard (Vert and Park), BMX Freestyle (Vert and Park) and Sport Climbing Speed (Men’s and Women’s).  A new addition to the KIA X Games Asia this year’s event will be Moto X Step Up, which will be accompanied by a Moto X Freestyle demonstration, “Big Air”. 
 
This year’s event celebrates the 10th edition of the X Games Asia. Expecting bigger crowds this year, the event will now include another day of exciting action with a new four-day format to satisfy the cravings of Shanghai action sports fans. In addition to the competitive events, spectators can also enjoy a Sponsors Area with fun and interactive activities and prize giveaways all day to ensure that the audience has an enjoyable experience at the event.
 
Created by ESPN in 1995, the X Games is widely considered the elite action sports competition, and a vehicle for expressing individuality and pushing one’s limits. The event celebrates the cool and trendy culture of the Generation X and Y youths of today, and the KIA X Games Asia continues this tradition in China with live musical performances headlined by the ‘Face of X’, celebrity boy band Go Go Club, as well as other popular and up-and-coming artists. The event will have plenty of break-dancing, DJs spinning the hottest tracks, prize giveaways and other fun and interactive activities.
 
The KIA X Games Asia is organized by Asia ’s No. 1 sports broadcaster ESPN STAR Sports in partnership with the Shanghai Media Group (SMG) and Shanghai Sports Federation. The event will be televised live from Shanghai ’s KIC Jiangwan Stadium on April 30 – May 5, 2008 on ESPN Asia networks as well as SMG’s channels Dragon TV and G Sports..
